A magical château wedding

A destination wedding in France is always going to be special for me, but this one was truly amazing. Surrounded by 40 of their closest family and friends, Phoebe and Kaz chose Château de Jalesnes for their stylish 3-day celebrations, a stunning renaissance castle in the Loire Valley, France.

As an international wedding filmmaker, I often seek venues that not only look beautiful but also carry a sense of history, atmosphere, and character. Château de Jalesnes delivers on all fronts. When discussing their wedding film with Phoebe and Kaz, they really wanted me to capture the grandeur of this castle, and for it to take center stage for their marriage. With its grand stone facade, manicured gardens, and luxurious interiors, this venue allowed me to naturally elevate the cinematography.

There’s always a moment when you’re editing a wedding film where everything just clicks. For Phoebe and Kaz’s film, that moment came when I was listening to their vows again. Hearing them speak their promises to each other, interwoven with the footage of their day, I realised just how personal this project had become for me. I wasn’t just documenting their wedding — I was telling their story. The heart of any wedding film is the couple, and Phoebe and Kaz made this experience truly special

At its core, the film is a combination of a remarkable love story, a stunning location, and the emotional depth of the day that makes it so special. Château de Jalesnes provided an incredible backdrop, but the real beauty of this film is in the connection between the couple.

As a cinematographer, my goal is always to create a piece that feels authentic and deeply personal. I strive to capture not just the big, dramatic moments, but the quiet, intimate ones that often say so much more. This wedding film does just that. It tells the story of Phoebe and Kaz in a way that feels intimate and truly special.

On the day of the wedding, as I filmed Phoebe getting ready in one of the Château’s suites, I could feel her excitement. The room was buzzing with her bridesmaids, all smiles and laughter, helping her with the final touches. One of the highlights of the morning was capturing the reaction of Phoebe’s bridesmaids the first time she saw her — it was a mix of disbelief and pure happiness. Those raw emotions are what I live for as a filmmaker.

On the other side of the château, Kaz was having his own moment of reflection. There’s this shot of him standing by a window, looking out across the château grounds, taking it all in before the day truly began. He wasn’t nervous, just calm, grounded, and ready. That’s something I’ll never forget — how at peace they both seemed in the midst of the anticipation. It was clear that this was their moment, and they were soaking up every second of it.

The ceremony was held outdoors. When Phoebe began her walk down the aisle, the way Kaz’s eyes lit up when he saw her, the subtle glances between them — these were the kinds of moments that needed no direction, no prompting. It was just pure, unfiltered love. What stood out to me was the intimacy of it all: despite the grand setting, there was a closeness between them that felt like they were the only two people in the world at that moment. As a filmmaker, you dream of capturing that kind of connection.

If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that feels like a fairytale, watch Phoebe and Kaz’s story — sometimes, the perfect day is simply about celebrating your love in the most beautiful way possible
