Carolina and André’s wedding in The Algarve

Carolina and André’s story is such a special one. They call Portugal home and have been together for 14 years. While André is from Porto (where they met) and Carolina is from Coimbra, they both share a deep love for the Algarve. For Carolina, the Algarve isn’t just beautiful—it’s deeply sentimental. She spent her childhood holidays here, coming back year after year with her family. It’s a place full of memories and happiness. It’s a part of her history. So, when it came time to choosing a location to get married, it made perfect sense to return to the Algarve, a place that already held so much meaning.

The ceremony overlooked the same ravines and beaches she used to visit as a child, making the day even more meaningful. In her speech, Carolina spoke about a popular saying: “You shouldn’t go back to where you were happy, for fear of returning to happiness again.” But for her, this place wasn’t about fear—it was about embracing those memories and creating new ones with André and everyone they love.

As an international wedding videographer, I’ve captured a lot of weddings in amazing locations, but this was also my first time capturing an entire wedding day—speeches, ceremony, and all—in a foreign language. When Carolina first reached out to me, she said, “Love has no language,” and she knew I could capture the essence of their love story without needing to understand every word. She was right. This challenge pushed me creatively, and I’m incredibly proud of the final result

For their wedding film, I wanted to create a piece that felt like stepping into Carolina’s memories of the Algarve: ethereal, warm, and full of nostalgia. It’s a wedding story not just of their wedding but of how meaningful this place is to Carolina and André.

One of the standout moments was when Carolina’s sister gave a beautiful, heartfelt speech about how much Carolina means to her and the family. It was so moving and a true reflection of the love that surrounded them that day. Carolina’s personality and creativity were everywhere on their wedding day. She’s the founder of Alameda Turquesa, where she designs stunning shoes, and she made sure her own wedding shoes were extra special. Designed by her, they were such a unique and personal detail—a little piece of her craft woven into her wedding day.

The reception was set up on a cliff, with a backdrop so stunning it almost didn’t look real. Tables were elegantly arranged to blend in with the natural beauty around them, and as the sun set over the ocean, the whole scene became even more magical. It was the perfect place to celebrate, surrounded by love, laughter, and some truly unforgettable views. The film ends with a song that’s very dear to the couple and their friends: “We are young”, which I used as the closing sequence to add that final touch of togetherness and connection.

Their wedding film tells their story in such a special way. It’s atmospheric and creative, with beautiful shots of the scenery that bring back those nostalgic feelings for Carolina. It’s filled with moments of joy, laughter, and connection—exactly what Carolina and André wanted their wedding to be about. This wasn’t just a wedding; it was a chance to celebrate love, family, and the special places that hold meaning in our lives.
