What makes a great wedding film

As an award-winning UK and Destination wedding videographer, I often get asked what makes a great wedding film. In this article, I’ll explain what the key ingredients are to great wedding videography.

UK and Destination wedding videographer: Making a great wedding film.

What makes a great wedding film

As a UK and Destination wedding videographer, I often gets aks: what makes a good wedding film. To me, wedding videography needs three ingredients to make a really good wedding film:

  1. The audio & sound design: As a UK and Destination wedding videographer, one of the most important aspects of making a good wedding film is the audio and sound design. When watching your wedding film, you want to be taken back to those little moments. It needs to feel like your wedding day all over again. This include ambient sound, soundtrack, as well as the wedding speeches. As a UK and Destination wedding videographer, so much of my wedding films are based on the speeches. The spoken words quite literally tell the story within my wedding films.

  2. The story: All weddings are unique, so the wedding film has to be bespoke too. As a UK and Destination wedding videographer, I truly believe that the wedding film needs to look and feel like it’s yours. And that’s based on your, and your story as a couple. Your wedding story is a huge part of who you are, it brings all the people you love the most together. The story-telling part of any wedding film has to be really personal, inspiring, loving. That’s what I emphasise as an award-winning UK and Destination wedding videographer.

  3. The footage: The composition, how you shoot on the wedding day. It’s impossible to tell the right story without the right footage. A wedding day is completely off-script. None of what I do is directed. You do you! That’s the only way to make something creative and engaging. Being a UK and Destination wedding videographer, I travel to a lot of different places around the globe, but the composition and footage is what makes a truly awesome wedding film.

Jade + William

“Today’s not about me, it’s about her.” | Dorfold Hall

Featured luxury wedding, at one of Cheshire’s most elegant and stylish wedding venues.

As a Cheshire wedding videographer, I loved Jade and William’s beautiful summer wedding at Dorfold Hall, in Cheshire. 3 days short of 44 years, and William has found the one.

Jade had carefully planned the wedding, and they tied the knot on a beautiful, sunny day at the Hall. Jade had picked a very colourful theme, which was a great choice for a summer day. She chose not to hold their civil ceremony in the Coach House, and instead opted to exchange their vows on the beautiful estate lawns, with stunning views of the Cheshire countryside. A perfect backdrop for a stunning wedding venue.

Following the ceremony, the photographer and I took the lucky couple for a stroll around the estate and its stunning lake, for couple portraits. As a luxury wedding videographer, I love filming at Dorfold Hall. It’s a perfect setting for a grand wedding, and the grounds look beautiful on film.

We then headed back to L’Écurie, where Jade’s vibrant colour scheme paired really well with the décor. Visually, this was a really stylish, bespoke wedding wedding breakfast setting, which is exactly what the bride wanted!

William’s speech was very emotional, as he delivered powerful words about friends and family, including those that couldn’t be there with them on the day. This is the main narrative for their wedding film: an emotive yet hopeful wedding speech, that encapsulates their relationship.

Top Wedding Trends of 2022

My view on the Top Weddings Trends of 2022, following recent couple enquiries

cheshire-wedding-videographer

If you’re currently planning your wedding and looking for some of the top trends, here are some of the most common enquiries I’ve received recently:

  1. Micro Weddings and Elopements: Coming out of the pandemic, smaller weddings have become more popular. Couples are opting for more intimate settings, such as backyard or outdoor weddings with a limited guest list. As a videographer, it allows me to focus on capturing the emotional intimacy of these smaller events.

  2. Drone Footage: The use of drones in wedding videography has become more popular in recent years, as they allow for stunning aerial footage of the ceremony and reception.

  3. Cinematic Storytelling: Couples are increasingly looking for wedding videos that tell a story, rather than just capturing the events of the day. Cinematic isn’t new, but the requests for experienced and creative wedding videographers have gone up.

  4. Virtual and Live Streaming: As a result of the pandemic, virtual weddings and live streaming have become more common. This provides an opportunity for couples to look at other services such as online delivery of wedding videos or offering live streaming services.

  5. Short-form Videos: Short-form videos, such as reels (for example on Instagram) or "sneak peeks" of the wedding day, have become increasingly popular as couples look for ways to share their wedding with friends and family on social media, quickly.

  6. Authentic Moments: Couples want their wedding videos to capture the real, candid moments of the day, rather than just posed shots.
